I am a big fan of VFDs, but can also appreciate rotary phase converters for some shop applications that have several 3 phase machines. I ran it on a "static phase converter" for some time and finally switched to a VFD and will never look back as the VFD gives much better performance than does the "static phase converter". of 1950 and used as a ship's maintenance lathe. It is a 24" swing South Bend (16-24) shipped to the Navy in Oct. Almost all of my several dozen shop machines are running on single phase, but I am running a VFD on one of my metal lathes that is 3 phase and have for years and it has been trouble-free. in my life, taught Industrial Tech for several years, and have a lot of experiences using machinery ran with both VFDs and rotary phase converters. I have restored / rebuilt several hundred wood and metalworking machines, motorcycles, various mfg. Latest report on my newest VFD Without bragging or without exaggeration. ![]()
